Comics I Like

Comics I Like published on 2 Comments on Comics I Like

I have been reading and thinking about webcomics for nigh twenty years now and now I’ve started trying to make my own I’m increasingly appreciating particular elements of those I read (seeing how hard it is to do a lot of this stuff!). I’m using this space to post about comics I like and what I appreciate about them rather than ‘review’ them. This is really a space for recommendations rather than critique, though if you’re interested in the latter I’d recommend The Webcomics Review.

A non-exhaustive list of individual comics I really like and recommend (may or may not end up getting a full post): 3rd Voice / Alethia / Clockwork Game / Derelict / Foreach / Gone with the Blastwave / Gunnerkrigg Court / Hark! A Vagrant / I Roved Out In Search Of Truth And Love (NSFW) / Kill Six Billion Demons / Malatona When it Rains / Mare Internum / Multiplex / O Human Star / Oglaf (NSFW) / Order of the Stick / Perry Bible Fellowship / Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal / Stand Still Stay Silent / Subnormality / Ten Earth Shattering BlowsThe Sword Interval / Towny Town / Vattu

Comics I Like: The Sword Interval (completed)

The Sword Interval, by Ben Fleuter, falls into that lovely category of “highly accomplished long-form narrative webcomics” that will likely be a regular feature here. Comics I Like: Foreach (ongoing)

Foreach is a story about nested cycles of escapism presented in an incredibly well-executed, incredibly modern way. There are a lot of webcomics which have pushed hard at the boundaries of what the medium is and can be – Homestuck comes immediately to mind, but long before it were all sorts of curios like When… Continue reading Comics I Like: Foreach (ongoing)

Hey! I’m the author of Malatona. I received this as a pingback, and I just want to say I really appreciate the shout-out, especially being mentioned next to some of my favorite comics ever (Evan Dahm rocks)

Oh cool! I hadn’t realised the pingback thing was even on but I do not mind this outcome at all. And he really is, isn’t he? I only just noticed that thanks to alphabetical ordering this is Dahm first and last.

And while I have you – Malatona is fantastic and absolutely belongs here. I’m enjoying working out the story, and I love the feeling of a dense, populated world alive with rivalries and resentments, the sketchy but assured expressiveness of all your faces and details and costumes, and the sense of light (and darkness) in every page. Keep it coming!

(Also I just checked and realised that I accidentally had a random page linked, so fixing that – you might get another pingback. Sorry.)
